Glossary: Feature Usage Rate

Feature usage rate is the share of an eligible user or wallet group that completes a defined feature action in a stated period.

What is feature usage rate?

Feature usage rate measures distinct eligible users or wallets that complete a defined feature action divided by the eligible population. State the identity unit and distinguish completed actions from page views or repeated event counts.

How to calculate it

Feature usage rate = distinct eligible users or wallets that used the feature ÷ eligible users or wallets × 100. Define the feature event, eligibility rule, identity unit, and observation period. Use distinct users or wallets for reach; use event counts or frequency separately when measuring repeated use.

Example

If 800 eligible wallets are active in a month and 200 use a portfolio export feature at least once, the monthly feature usage rate is 25%. A separate metric can report how many exports those wallets completed or whether users returned the following month.

blockchain-based apps measurement considerations

Some features happen offchain while others require a wallet action or confirmed transaction. Instrument the meaningful action consistently and distinguish opening a screen from completing the task. State whether the denominator includes visitors, registered users, connected wallets, or active wallets.

Common mistakes

Do not divide feature users by total users if only a subset was eligible. Avoid counting page views as completed feature use when an outcome event is available. Compare matching periods and pair adoption with activation, task success, and retention.

FAQs

How do you calculate feature usage rate?

Divide the number of eligible users or wallets that used the feature by the eligible population for the same period, then multiply by 100.

Should usage be measured by events or users?

Use event counts for repeated actions and distinct users or wallets for reach. State which measure is reported.

Does high feature usage mean the feature is successful?

Not by itself. Pair reach with task completion, repeat use, retention, and user outcomes.
