What is Wallet Connect?

A wallet connect is an app or analytics event that records an account becoming available through a wallet provider, including a connection restored on page load. It can expose a public address and chain context, but does not by itself prove a person’s identity, sign a message, or approve a transaction.

Wallet Connect Explained

Connecting a wallet makes a public account address available to an app through a wallet provider. It is not the same as logging into a conventional account: the connection alone does not prove a person’s identity or give the app a private key.

The app may later request a message signature or transaction. The wallet presents that request for authorization. A signature, token allowance, or smart-account permission is separate from the initial connection and can have different effects. Disconnecting the app does not undo an onchain approval that was already granted.

FAQs

Is connecting a wallet the same as giving an app access to my funds?

No. A connection exposes the selected public account and lets the app request signatures or transactions; by itself it does not grant a token allowance or move funds. A signed token approval or smart-account permission can authorize later actions within its scope without a new prompt for every action.

What is WalletConnect the protocol?

WalletConnect is an open protocol for establishing sessions between apps and wallets. An approved session specifies the chains, accounts, methods, or events available to the app; it relays requests but does not expose private keys.

Can a wallet connection be revoked?

Yes. Disconnect or delete the wallet session to stop the app from sending requests through that connection. This does not undo token allowances or actions already authorized onchain; revoke those separately with an onchain approval tool.

Is wallet connect safe?

A connection does not reveal private keys or by itself authorize a transaction, but it can reveal the selected public address and associated public activity. Safety depends on the app and the requests it makes. Verify the app and review every signature, transaction, and permission request.

What data does an app see when I connect my wallet?

The app can receive the selected public address and approved chain or account context, and it can query public blockchain data such as balances and transaction history. It cannot read the private key. A later signature, transaction, allowance, or smart-account permission is a separate authorization with its own scope.
