What is CPM?

CPM stands for cost per mille: the price of 1,000 ad impressions. It measures the cost of reach across ad networks, sponsored posts, and creator campaigns. CPM describes delivery cost, not whether the audience clicked, connected a wallet, or became a customer.

How to calculate CPM

Enter campaign spend and impressions. CPM = spend ÷ impressions × 1,000. Add clicks to calculate cost per click and click-through rate. Add connected wallets to estimate cost per wallet reached. Use the same campaign and reporting period for all inputs.

A CPM example

A campaign spends $2,500 and receives 400,000 impressions. Its CPM is $6.25. If it also receives 5,000 clicks, click-through rate is 1.25% and cost per click is $0.50. If 250 of those visitors connect a wallet, cost per connected wallet is $10.

How to interpret CPM

A lower CPM buys cheaper exposure, but it may attract a less relevant audience. Compare placements with similar audiences and measurement rules. Look at clicks, wallet activation, retained users, and revenue before deciding which campaign produced better value.

What CPM does not tell you

CPM does not measure unique people, viewability, conversions, or profit. Social view counts and verified ad impressions may be measured differently. Repeated impressions to the same person can lower apparent cost of reach without expanding the audience.
