Glossary: Wallet Cohort

A wallet cohort is a fixed group of wallet addresses or wallet clusters that share a starting event, acquisition source, behavior, value band, or lifecycle milestone and are tracked over time.

What is Wallet Cohort?

A wallet cohort is a fixed group of wallet addresses or wallet clusters that share a starting event, acquisition source, behavior, value band, or lifecycle milestone. Teams track the same members over elapsed time to compare retention, activity, revenue, or product adoption without mixing later arrivals into the original group.

How wallet cohorts work

Choose the identity unit, define the membership rule, set the cohort-entry date, and keep membership stable. Acquisition cohorts group wallets first seen in the same period or campaign. Activation cohorts share a milestone. Behavioral, value, and lifecycle cohorts group wallets by actions or state at the time they enter.

Wallet cohort example

A protocol compares wallets first seen in January with wallets first seen in February. It measures the percentage of each group that returns and transacts in week 1, week 4, and week 8. The elapsed-time view shows whether later acquisition is producing more durable participation.

Common mistakes

Do not silently switch between addresses, clusters, and people. Avoid changing cohort membership after the entry rule is evaluated; that turns a cohort into a dynamic segment. Compare cohorts over the same elapsed horizon, and record whether bots, contracts, or suspected Sybil wallets are excluded.

Using Wallet Cohort in practice

Use wallet cohorts to compare acquisition quality, activation paths, retention, repeat behavior, and value over time. Break a cohort down by source or wallet attributes when useful, but preserve its original membership so the analysis remains longitudinal and reproducible.

FAQs

Is a wallet cohort the same as a segment?

No. A cohort usually preserves membership from a shared entry event, while a segment can update whenever wallets start or stop matching its rules.

Can a wallet cohort use wallet clusters?

Yes, if the clustering method and confidence rules are documented and applied consistently across the analysis.

What can wallet cohorts measure?

Common measures include retention, active days, repeat transactions, product adoption, revenue, and lifecycle movement over elapsed time.
