What is a session?

An analytics session groups captured events under a session identifier so teams can analyze activity across one or more visits. Its boundary depends on how the SDK assigns that identifier; a session is not inherently a person, wallet, browser, or universal 30-minute visit.

Sessions in Formo

For web events, Formo creates a daily-rotating session ID server-side from the site domain, request IP address, and browser user agent; the raw IP is discarded after hashing. A visitor can therefore contribute one session on each active day. The mobile SDK instead starts a new session after 30 minutes of inactivity and preserves it across app restarts. These are platform-specific rules, so Formo web sessions are not defined by a universal 30-minute timeout.

Example

A visitor opens a dApp, reads the swap page, connects a wallet, and leaves. Those actions can belong to one session. If they return the next day, that activity can create a new session while still relating to the same visitor identifier where available.

What sessions help measure

Session counts support analysis of acquisition, engagement, bounce rate, and funnel entry. Pair sessions with unique visitors to understand visit frequency, and with wallets or confirmed transactions to see whether visits lead to meaningful blockchain-based apps actions.

Common mistakes

• Do not treat sessions as unique people; one person may create many sessions and use multiple devices.

• Do not equate session count with wallet count or transaction count.

• Session duration reflects observed activity between events and may not include passive reading time.
